In the last few days there has been a great deal said and written about Alder Hey children’s hospital in Liverpool seeing patients at its newly established teen vaping cessation service. This may be a first of it’s kind for some of the NHS but Allen Carr’s Easyway have been helping people to quit vaping for over 10 years including many young people and have been helping vapers to freedom in Southwark via the Quit Smoking & Vaping service for over 2 years to great success.

In 2024, 18% of 11- to 18-year-olds had vaped, compared to 20% in 2023 and 13% in 2019, suggesting this downward trend.

Prof Rachel Isba, a consultant in paediatric public health medicine at Alder Hey, pointed to the distressing increase in young people resorting to vaping and the considerable ambiguity about its long-term ramifications. She emphasised that the center’s mission is to offer much-needed aid to those involved, allowing them to achieve nicotine-free lives. Detailed therapy-based approaches and potential nicotine replacement may be offered as part of the treatment and support given to teenagers, with the services also aimed at helping them manage peer pressure and behavior associated with vaping. Complications arise with illegal vapes, with indications that as many as one in six vapes confiscated in schools are mixed with addictive synthetic cannabinoids.

This innovative center will surely provide pivotal information in an environment where there is limited evidence about effective strategies to quit vaping, particularly for young people.

Comment by Allen Carr’s Easyway:

At Allen Carr’s Easyway we have been helping vapers of all ages for over 10 years with the same high long term success rates as for smokers since we treat nicotine addiction.

The Alder Hey center is a positive step and we encourage the Government to give funding to support Local Authorities so that they can offer quit vaping services to help all vapers find freedom and escape the nicotine trap.
