Barrow smoking rates halve with help from Allen Carr’s Easyway
The Office for National Statistics (ONS) show that less than 10% of people in Barrow now smoke compared with 21% last year.
Allen Carr’s Easyway were brought in by Westmorland and Furness Council to help the smokers of Barrow alongside existing services and we are proud of our involvement and help in halving the smoking rates.
Colin Cox, previous Director of Public Health called the results “Excellent”.
Cllr Patricia Bell, Cabinet Member for Adults, Health and Care, said:
“We were really pleased to see the success of the pilot scheme [Allen Carr’s Easyway] that ran last year. There were some brilliant results for residents which is why are delighted to support this scheme again to help people quit smoking for good.”
The BBC article discusses the results of Allen Carr’s Easyway and vaping as well as a testimonial from Caroline Hartle who quitted with Allen Carr’s Easyway and has now been free for over one year.
“It was amazing and changed my life and now my sister and best friend have quitted as well.
My breathing is better. I can walk further, I’m not wheezing and it just feels like I have more time to do things.”
Paul Baker, CFO & NHS Liaison said
“We are delighted to hear Caroline’s story and with the excellent long term results that we have seen in Barrow and across the country with our work with Local Authorities. We track our method up to a year and so see the long term results freeing people from addiction, improving their health and their finances. The rates are the same in every area of the country, for every demographic, for every background and education level. We look forward to helping even more smokers and vapers to be free.”
