A significant number of non-smokers are turning to e-cigarettes leading to proposed governmental action to curb the uptake of vaping, especially among young populations, as part of broader public health safeguarding efforts.

The Rising Trend of Vaping Among Non-Smokers

In England, the number of people who vape despite never having regularly smoked has risen sevenfold in the past three years.

This dramatic increase is highlighted in a study published in the Lancet Public Health journal, which details that the proportion of adult non-smokers equates to over 1,000,000 people.

The Tobacco and Vapes Bill

In response to these concerning statistics, new legislative measures are in consideration.

Health Secretary Wes Streeting, alongside Chief Medical Officer Chris Whitty, is spearheading efforts to introduce a tobacco and vapes bill that seeks to enforce restrictions on where e-cigarettes can be used, particularly targeting areas around schools, hospitals, and potentially, pub gardens.

The aim of the amended bill is to prevent vaping from appealing to non-smokers and minors, thereby safeguarding future generations from nicotine addiction and its consequential health risks.

Comment by Allen Carr’s Easyway

At Allen Carr’s Easyway, every year we see thousands of smokers and thousands of vapers who we help to freedom with our drug free one day seminar. The increasing numbers of people addicted to only vaping over the last ten years is of significant concern particularly the growth in numbers of young people.

We’ve been warning for years that young people will get drawn into nicotine addiction as a result of lack of regulation of vaping and aligning vaping with smoking’s current bans makes sense.

In terms of policy more needs to be done to educate people that vaping is not harmless as well as regulating access to all vapes, regulating the way they are marketed and helping all smokers and vapers that have fallen into the nicotine trap to find freedom.

Allen Carr’s Easyway to stop vaping provides a drug free, proven, effective, easy solution to getting free from cigarettes without the need to switch to vaping and remaining a nicotine addict.
