Ban on Disposable Vapes Set for June 2025
Discover how disposable vapes will be banned in England and Wales to protect youth and the environment, starting June 2025.
The government of England and Wales has confirmed a ban on the sale of disposable vapes effective from June 2025.
Initially announced by the previous government, this step targets the growing concern over youth vaping and the environmental burden caused by disposable vapes.
Details of the Vape Ban Initiative
The Department for Environment, Food, and Rural Affairs (Defra) has highlighted a 400% increase in vape usage from 2012 to 2023, with disposable vapes significantly contributing to this rise, particularly among never-smokers now turning to vaping.
The reason for this is partly due to their vibrant, eye-catching packaging and affordability, with prices around £5, much cheaper than refillable kits.
Despite vaping being believed to be less damaging than smoking, the long-term health consequences remain uncertain.
Furthermore, environmental concerns are profound. Defra noted a near four-fold increase in improperly discarded vapes, leading to severe pollution and battery waste issues.
In 2022 alone, discarded vapes included over 40 tonnes of lithium, highlighting the scale of the problem.
Global Context and Industry Reactions
The ban on disposable vapes puts England and Wales in line with other nations like New Zealand, Australia, and India, which have already implemented restrictions.
Comment by Allen Carr’s Easyway
At Allen Carr’s Easyway, we understand the allure of nicotine products and the challenges posed by addiction.
The lack of control over marketing of vapes has led to the huge rise in youth vaping and government action needs to move faster and keep up to date.
This ban is a positive step toward reducing nicotine addiction among youths and mitigating environmental harm however, the industry has already adapted with rechargeable models for similar prices that look the same. Further action is needed but it is important that Government also help those addicted to nicotine and caught in the trap.
Vaping is often thought of as less harmful than smoking but young people, due to marketing and mixed messaging, often think it is harmless yet there are mental and physical effects of vaping which anyone considering vaping needs to be aware of.
Allen Carr’s Easyway to stop vaping provides a drug free, proven, effective, easy solution to getting free from nicotine.
