An extraordinary announcement today by Action on Smoking and Health (ASH) via their “ASH Daily News” email. Their headline says “Quitting smoking could be responsible for increased incidence of Parkinson’s disease – but lighting up is still more likely to kill you”.

They go on to say…

“A new study by researchers in Minnesota has suggested anti-smoking campaigns from the late 1940s and 50s could be behind increased prevalence of Parkinson’s disease decades later.”

But the link they provide to the study – shows that the “Abstract” clearly states “we found no significant correlation between any measure of smoking and any measure of Parkinson’s Disease severity and conclude that smoking is probably not of benefit in preventing, delaying, or ameliorating Parkinson’s Disease.”

This is the link http://archneur.jamanetwork.com/article.aspx…

Why on earth have ASH publicised this study in the way they have…apparently implying that their might be some kind of downside to quitting smoking?
