For over 10 years I was a casual/social smoker always thinking I was in control and that I could give up any time that i wanted.

It was only after several failed attempts and the realisation that there was nothing casual about a 10 year ‘habbit’ that it dawned on me that I actually might be addicted.

After reading the onlyway to stop smoking (a bigger book so I could put off smoking that final cigarette a little bit longer) I ended up reading the whole thing in a few days on my holiday abroad – the situation where I would normally smoke 4 times the amount I usually would.

And it was easy. Its only been 3 days but I just know that I will never smoke again – I wish coming back to work after my holiday was as easy

THANK YOU

I have tried to stop before and done so for a year twice and recently for 4 and a half months and then had one cigarette….
I became what I thought was a non-smoker before but fell into the trap. I’ve just finished Allen’s book for the second time and it was the first thing that I reached for when I was angry that I had had that one cigarette and started the cycle over again.
I have just finished the last page and am about to smoke that last one. I have another packet but they are going in the bin straight away.
This time it’s the last time I’ll be giving up, I’m done, even smoking the last 2 or 3 weeks I have felt like this is not me and it isn’t.
Thanks to Allen and all that he gave to so many before leaving last November.
I owe you a lot mate and hope you find another challenge to get your teeth into wherever you are.
Scott.

Thanks to Alans book i’ve now been stopped over a month. It hasnt been that easy but i feel a huge improvement in my health and general wellbeing. Yes, it should be available on the NHS but we all know the scams and backhanders going on in the tobacco industry and the government. They all want everybody to stay hooked.

Thanks again, Richard.

Even at the age of 29, I was a full-time smoker. I had my first smoke when I was 13 years old, and began my career at the tender age of 15. They were easy to get, even though I was always under the legal age limit. I tried and tried to quit throughout my tenure as a smoker, I tried the Patch, Gum, perscription drugs, ‘tobacco free’ cigarettes, and nothing worked. I was able to quit once, for three months, but it was the worst three months of my life. Every moment was filled with wanting, needing to smoke. And then the inevitable.
I picked up Allen Carr’s book after three people I knew had successfully stopped smoking from reading it. It sounded too good to be true. It sat on my bookshelf for about three months. I picked it up one day, and read one chapter. It made so much sense, but I was scared. In the back of my mind I knew that once I finished reading this book, I would be a non-smoker. It took me another three months to get through it, reading it one chapter at a time. I read the last page on January 3, 2007. I haven’t smoked since. When I stopped, I still had a pack of cigarettes, that were in my purse for another month. It didn’t even cross my mind to open that pack. I saw them one day and thought to myself ‘that’s weird, I don’t smoke, why do I have these cigarettes?’. I threw them out. It was so strange, it was like I had forgotten that I smoked for 1/2 my life. These days I don’t even think about smoking. When someone around me lights up, the smell is terrible, I always have to move away from the person smoking. I feel sorry for smokers now, because I know what’s it like to be in the chains of nicotine, and I also know how wonderful it is to break free. I have sinced passed my book on to a friend. I thank you Allen, where ever you are, for giving me my life back.

Hi
I was given Allan Carr’s book – Easy Way to Stop Smoking as a Christmas gift from a friend in 2006. He had read the book and had stopped smoking. I read the book on the 7th and 8th January 2007. I stopped smoking on the 8th January. It is funny the only reason that I read the book was due to my friend pestering me about what I thought about the book, so in order to get him off my back I read the book. I am so thankful to him and to Allan Carr. Stopping smoking has honestly been the easiest thing for me to do. I know that I will never ever smoke again! My husband has read the book. It took him 3 months after I had stopped to read the book – he has stopped smoking. I recommended the book and convinced my mother-in-law to read the book. She had been smoking for over 30 years a minimum of 40 cigarettes a day. She has stopped and is a happy non-smoker. Three of my friends have read the book after discussing with me and my husband how easy it is to stop. All three of them have stopped smoking. In total there are 10 of us that have read the book, and all 10 of us have stopped smoking! Thank you!!!

I read Allen Carr’s Easy Way to Control Alcohol (in one sitting), and before I got to the end I knew I’d never drink again. MY drinking had got to a bottle of wine per night, and it made me agressive, tired and lethargic.
Luckily, I found Allen’s book and since finishing it, I haven’t touched a drink…why would i want to?
My friends think I’m crazy and can’t believe it. (I think they feel quite threatened). They believe I’m depriving myself, and it must be so hard. But it was SO EASY! Now I can’t bear the smell. I’ve read Allen’s other books, Easyweigh and the others, and I agree with him. I’ve followed his ideas in my diet too, and now I no longer drink caffeine based drinks either. (I used to love diet coke, now can’t bear it). Allen’s approach made my mind open to all sorts of things we’re lied to about (inc. smoking) which I find fascinating, and made me realise a lot about how we must listen to Mother Nature and not the ‘so called experts’! I wish I’d met him.

I had my last cigarette on the 18th of June 2007. I still feel a little light-headed that I finally made the decision to quit after nearly 20 years of smoking 20 a day. But I feel fantastic, and I would never have made it without the Allen Carr method. I had tried nicotine replacement in the past, but they constantly reminded me that I was simply taking the nicotine into my body in another form – so why not just have a cigarette?? Now I have quit using my mind rather than my body. I feel great, I smell great – and people say I actually look great too!

My deep est condolences for your loss.

I was just in the process of trying to direct a good friend of mine to your website and found out that Allen died last year.

I discovered Allen’s method about 3 months ago after I bought his book on a whim in an airport, I threw it in my kit-bag and nearly forgot about it. Then later, I ran out of reading material (I work abroad) and picked up his Easyway to Control Alcohol and could hardly put it down. I have been trying, and failing, to stop drinking for years and have been an alcoholic for probably 10 years, chronially so for the last 5. I lost my wife and my job and my kids didn’t like me much. Now I am happy, more intelligent, more confident, back living with (and loving it!) my ex-wife, my kids cannot wait to see me and it’s all down to the realisation that Allen imparted in his book. I think most people who are about to reach rock-bottom and want to give up their addiction know what he is saying is right, and many (like me) will have reached some of the same conclusions. But it takes someone of vision, generosity and uncommon intelligence to lay all these thoughts out clearly so they can be understood and accepted. Once I accepted what he was saying I knew I would never have a drink problem again. Now, when I fancy a drink for whaever reason, I just read a chapter and go for a run or call my kids.

I am so sad that as I got my life back, Allen’s came to an end from the very addiction he helped so many people conquer. I don’t know if words from a stranger make you feel any easier (they didn’t help me much when my Dad died of alcohol-related illnesses) but it might help to know that there must be 1000’s of people like me and my family whos lives would have been destroyed were it not for Allen. In many ways, that’s the best remembrance a person can have. I wish that I had something as monumentally significant to offer the world at large. Thank you.

where do I start? I read Allen Carrs easy way to stop smoking within two days. I did not believe it would work so there was no stressful build up trying to get my self discipline together. I quit the drug once the last page was turned. I felt free. Time passed and the book had heightened my awareness of my self control etc. I realised I was out of control on food. I have just read EW to lose weight and Does it make sense or what?! His theory has helped me in more ways than one and I’ve passed it all on to those I know still trapped by their nicotine monster/confusion over food. It excites me to know that I have the knowledge now. I see others ram fags and food in their mouth all day but I am truely content knowing I control me. Food is now under my control not the other way round and I haven’t touched a cigarette since that last page, 2 yrs ago. It’s strange how those still trapped are so sceptical…I must have had that attitude so not only am I more healthy but I can now have an open mind when it comes to my behaviour. Thank you for everything x

Firstly I would like to say how deeply saddened I am that Mr Carr is no longer with us, he has done so much for so many people with no help from the government or organisations that are meant to help smokers quit. He really should have received more recognition for the work he has done and continues to do through his clinics. If the government was to plough the same amount of money into his method as they do into the non effective advertising campaigns, then this county would have a significantly lower death rate through smoking related illnesses. However the government would never do that as they would loose all that money from tax on cigarettes.
Maybe we should all donate our copies of the Easyway to doctors waiting rooms.

The only regret I have related to quitting smoking is that I could not personally thank him for helping me.

I had been smoking for 13 years until I had my last cigarette on 3rd June 2007, just under two weeks ago. I can say with total conviction that I will never ever smoke again.

I do not miss it, crave it, need it or want it and I will be eternally grateful to Allen Carr and his method for the rest of my days. He has given me the best gifts of all…an open mind, my health back, knowledge and the belief in my own ability to do anything I set my mind to. I am free!!!

I am a non smoker and I am so very proud. Thanks Allen. xxx

I felt I ought to drop you a quick line to let you know that its now nearly 4 weeks since I attended your clinic in Leeds and to date I have not had one cigarette! I have even ventured out to restaurants which incidentally are a far more enjoyable experience and a lot less stressful. Oh, and I have been told in the last week or so that I seem a lot calmer person than I once was. I think that reinforces what you had said about cigarettes making you more stressful not less.

I can’t believe it worked for me when all other methods failed. Hope it lasts. Don’t want to take it for granted in case it’s taken from me. Love it love it love it. No smells on me, my house or my car – hurrah.

Think I may have to share my book with my partner as his first words to me this morning when I mentioned being proud of myself were that I had only “given up” at midnight. On Novemeber 12th 2006 I smoked my last cigarette and went to bed. I had finished reading the book 2 days before. I got up very nervously the next morning fully expecting to be “gagging for a fag” as I had found every time I tried to give up before. What a pleasant surprise!! Not only did I not want one, because I wasn’t going to feed my nicotine monster, I was very excited. I was on a natural high. I went to a pub that night and couldn’t beleive that I was feeling very sorry for all these people looking for the smoking area!! My husband included. I’m very proud of myself, as are all my family, and have just done a presentation at work to convince all the smokers there that if I can do it they can. One person has bought the book and the others say they are going to. It’s just so fantastic, everyone should try it. Very sad about Allen Carr but look what he acheived in life.

I just sent the following to Steve Wright at the BBC

Steve,

I just listened to your discussion about stopping smoking with Dr. Jones.

I was extremely disappointed!!
When asked what methods were available to help stop smoking there was no mention of cessation clinics/counseling.

I stopped smoking last year.

I was a total addict doing 25+ /day for 32 years.

I tried replacement methods and became more addicted to the nicotine.

I attended a 5 hour Allen Carr session and stopped during the session.

Amazingly I had little or no withdrawal symptoms and felt very positive.

So this method certainly works for a lot of people yet is hardly mentioned and not supported by the NHS.

It does make one suspect a deal with the drug companies who profit enormously from the nicotine replacement therapies.

At least give people all the information.

Hi, I have been a heavy smoker for about 30 years and had tried every and all usual methods to give up smoking. All ways failed for me.
I read the independant newspaper and when I saw the quit smoking book, I thought, – not another way! I then remembered a colleague of mine had given up with the method a few years back and I thought it rather weird at the time.
As soon as i started reading, I saw myself in it from the start. I took it on board and now have stopped smoking. I have had no cravings and feel much more relaxed. If I think of a smoke, it is in the terms of the course, and your right – willpower does not come into it.
It was the best free weekend suppliment a newspaper could give its readers – a truly lifechanging one!
Thanks,
Caroline Mapley
I hope to try the weightloss book next.

Using the book, the transformation from smoking to not smoking was indeed easy, and dignified. Thank you Mr. Carr, wherever you are!

Hi Guys,

Thanks so much for your help. Here is an email that I sent to Quit New Zealand

Dear Sir/Madam,

I’m grateful for the time spent in helping me quit smoking. For 4 years I tried using gum and patches recommended by you and it’s been a terrible period ruining my self confidence because I thought that I don’t have enough will-power because I even got addicted to the nicotine gum that you prescribed.

I’m very, very upset because I called your orgnization so many times; desperately asking for help and none of the staff even mentioned the Allen Carr method or something about his book. Now I’m a nonsmoker because of this book and everything makes sense except the fact that you guys continue to harm people’s self respect and even mental health by recommending a method that has very, very little chances of success, perpetuates the addiction and it’s simply the wrong approach.

I know you will say the your method works but what’s the success rate? If somebody like me calls and actually says that is addicted to the gum, why do you guys carry on with recommending gum or patches? There is almost no physical withdrawal symptom and when I stopped smoking after reading the book I felt almost zero physical withdrawal symptoms. Exactly like the book says. Why continue to prescribe nicotine gum if anybody can give up without feeling any physical pain? Why not recommending a method that is claimed to have over 90% success rate and that actually addresses the right issue which is the mental addiction and brainwashing?

I know that common sense is not actually common but still…there are some numbers. Please! Just experiment! Try to give nicotine to 10 people and then recommend the book to other 10 and see what happens…

And please let me know the result of the experiment. Also please recommend the book to people like me that struggled a lot and got addicted to the gum. At least try to save these ones.

Kind regards,

Dorin

Read the book, and laughed my way through all of the tricks I knew so well, and the situations I’ve been in. I even knew what he was telling me, but needed someone to formulate it for me. Near the end of the book I couldn’t wait to be finished with it so I could kill the last cigarette. Reading the book was an experience which in a sense gave me permission to stop: that it was ok. I pick it up now and again and read coincidental pages. The mantra for me is one cigarette doesn’t exist, and the next is smoked because of the last which itself becomes the last calling for a next. Easy when you know how it works.

I struggled for two weeks with the ‘traditional’ methods of stopping smoking, utilised the QuitLine programme, nicotine patches, nicotine gum etc all to no avail, I still hadn’t managed a day without at least one cigarette. Then I discovered Easyway, got the book, read it in two days and the next day I was smoke free. I still can’t believe it, it was SO EASY, I feel great, I don’t ever want another cigarette in my life. All the other times I’d tried to stop but only managed a week or two, wanting to have stopped for good. This time, I just know I won’t smoke again. And the best part, two of my friends and my sister have stopped all from me telling them about “Easyway”.

Dear Allen,

I have finished reading your book and although I did know a lot of the things you said, I found your approach new.

I have just had my last roll-up cigarette. I rolled it, left my desk and went for a walk in the glorious sunshine (I live in Paphos, Cyprus). As I walked, I saw other people smoking and although I was puffing away on my fag, I did have a genuine feeling of pity for them. How sad they looked. For myself, I smiled, knowing that this was the last cigarette I would smoke. I finished my walk by throwing the remainder of my tobacco, with filters, papers and lighter into a big rubbish bin. What a wonderful feeling! I am now a non-smoker!

Thank you for your advise, I am now looking forward to a wonderful life – smoking – not worth it – seeing my son grow up and spending many wonderful moments with him – something to look forward to.

Thanks once again.
