Stopping smoking using Allen Carr’s Easyway To Stop Smoking Method - Dawn Sanheim
- Polly May 14, 10:51 AM
It’s just a small ‘click’ in your thought process. As easy as that, after all. And true enough, almost no withdrawal symptoms. After 2 months, I do still have to remind myself when I see my friends smoking that I don’t want to smoke because I don’t need to – that there is simply no point – but that feels like strong enough armour for me not to smoke again. Thank you

Having said that – it’s even more wonderful when we receive even more detailed information about those who stop smoking with us.
My name is Dawn Sanheim and I had been a pack-a-day smoker since I was 16 years old. I’m 44 now. I had stopped smoking once using a prescription medication, but unfortunately, my Brother-in-Law was involved in a motorcycle accident and the stress of that sent me right back to cigarettes.
I hadn’t learned how to handle that kind of stress. I remember thinking, “just this one, that’s it!” Soon (as you guessed) I was borrowing cigarettes off friends and eventually ended up buying half packs and throwing them away when I was feeling guilty, but it quickly progressed back to a pack a day.
Four years later I had a life changing event. My first Granddaughter….I met her on December 4, 2006. It’s true what they say about Grandkids….”It’s too bad you can’t have them first”. My whole world changed. I couldn’t have imagined the love I would have for such a beautiful little person.
Shortly after she came along though my daughter moved out of the area I live in and I wasn’t able to see her very often. A couple years went by and she finally decided to move back, Melody was 2. As I spent more and more time with her, I realized I wanted to spend more and more time with her. But I quickly learned that if I was smoking I couldn’t/wouldn’t be around her for her own health and safety. I was taking away that special time with my beautiful granddaughter for something that could ultimately take my life and end our lifetime together…..how incredibly selfish of me.
I decided enough was enough! I wasn’t going to miss another cherished memory with my granddaughter.
I had heard about Allen Carr’s quit smoking book from a co-worker and thought…”why not, it can’t hurt”. Well, it was the best $20 I’ve ever spent. I read the book and haven’t smoked since….that was over 2 years ago. I never ever get cravings or feel like having a cigarette, I’m rarely ever unwell, I smell nice :) , and now when I see my granddaughter we get to spend every minute together….laughing, giggling and having fun.
In fact, I’m about to go on a 12 hour car ride with her and couldn’t be more excited.
We are making memories that she and I will have for the rest of our lives. 28 years after my first cigarette I finally feel that I am completely free. There is no a doubt in my mind that I will never smoke again. No longer do I have that rancid smell following me around embarrassing me, no more cleaning filthy ashtrays, no more looking like a fool standing outside in the freezing cold puffing away, no more planning my day around a cigarette. My days are all for me now. I feel incredibly confident that my days of smoking are all behind me and I will forever be thankful for Allen Carr for bringing me such insight.
My life has changed so incredibly in the last couple years and it all began with a book. Thank you! On another note….I just finished reading ‘Lose Weight Now’ about a week and a half ago and have lost 8 lbs :) Here I go again….on my way to success.
